The Palestine Writing Workshop (Palestine)

The Palestine Writing Workshop (PWW) began as a project inspired by the work of the Palestine Festival of Literature (PalFest). It fosters a community of emerging writers in Palestine through an array of programmes in both Arabic and English.

PWW work to inspire youth across Palestine to read and write more creatively as well as develop educators and professionals’ capacity to ‘pay forward’ writing skills and education—strengthening individual and communal voices. Through trainings, internships, professional writing, poetry performances, book clubs and so much more, they encourage people to utilize writing as a tool for social change as well as professional and academic development.

Rimal Publications contibutes by donating books to the PWW Reading Room, which is part of the PWW workshops located in a historic building in the village of Birzeit. Like a library, the Reading Room offers a comfortable environment with cozy furniture and wooden bookshelves where emerging writers can sit with a cup of tea and a book. By surrounding themselves with great  literary works, the Reading Room assists in the transfer of inspiration derived from the atmosphere of the room into their own work.

We also donate children books that are then awarded during the PalFest to the children who read the most books for the "Come on, Let's Read Palestine!" competition.

For two consecutive years (2011 and 2012) the proceeds were donated to the Ghassan Kanafani Cultural Foundation. The team from the foundation have been very supportive in also promoting the calendars.
