Falak Shawwa wins photography competition

We would also like to announce that Falak Shawwa, who has worked on several of our publications, was awarded 2nd place in a street photography competition in Beirut, Lebanon called "Lakum Hamra2akum wa li Hamra2i" (I have My Hamra, and You Have Your Hamra). 350 photographs were submitted to the organisers of the competition. Her photograph was titled "Over Time" and it is of three chairs, a metal one, a wooden one and a plastic one all showing various levels of wear and tear, next to a mustard-coloured wall. Her artistic eye spotted the coincidence of the arrangement and she snapped the photo.

Publications that Falak has worked on for us are: Palestinian Embroidery Motifs: a Treasury of Stitches 1850-1950, Threads of Identity: Palestinian Costumes and Traditions, and Olives & Lemons: Traces of Cyprus Past. We are looking forward to bringing out her photographic collection of Trucks of Lebanon later this year.
