The Cyprus Connection
A mixture of history, culture and personal experience told in a lighter vein.
This is truly a wonderful addition to the enormous number of works about the island. Subtitled 'a personal experience' it is part guide book, part history book, part diary and Seamus MacHugh was correct in his observation that there was a need for 'a mixture of history, culture and personal experience told in a lighter vein.' He had risen to the task of filling that had and came up with a well-written account of like on the island, filled with acute observations of the things that make modern-day Cyprus and its people what they are.
This is an affectionate, well-researched book that is both edifying and amusing. Permanent residents will fund much that reflects their own experience while visitors will gain valuable insights onto the true nature of the place whose sun, sand and sea they come to enjoy.
